Heat injuries are a real concern with Singapore's hot and humid weather.
If you’re a resident in Singapore, you would’ve probably been accustomed to the weather by now. But, that doesn’t mean that we’re invulnerable to its elements. Heat injuries can kill if they are not recognised and treated early. Most importantly, by observing a few simple measures and knowing your limits, they can be effectively and easily prevented.
With Singapore’s hot and humid weather, heat injuries are a silient killer. But, if you know your limits, they can be easily prevented.
There are 2 types of heat exhaustion, water depleted heat exhaustion and sodium depleted heat exhaustion.
Usually, heat exhaustion shows a series of symptoms such as body aches, nausea, headache, excessive sweating, dizziness, fast heart rate, and rapid breathing, with raised body temperature due to heat exposure.
Here are some useful treatment tips for you:
Stop activities and rest.
Go into a shady area, away from the sun.
Rest in a cool area.
Remove excessive clothing.
sprinkle/spray water and fan.
Provide sports drink water with salt.
Place the person lying down leg raised above the heart to improve circulation.
If there’s no relief from the symptoms, or when the casualty turns unconscious, call 995 for immediate medical attention.
