Tuas Checkpoint Incident: A Wake-Up Call for Road Safety

On March 27th, 2023, a Certis officer at Tuas Checkpoint was hit by a car, resulting in a severe head injury.

According to reports, the officer was conducting checks on a vehicle at the checkpoint when a car suddenly veered towards the checkpoint and hit the officer. The driver of the car was subsequently arrested for reckless driving causing grievous hurt.

The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by frontline officers who work in high-risk areas such as checkpoints, where they have to deal with heavy traffic and potentially dangerous situations.

It is important for drivers to be extra cautious and follow traffic rules and regulations when approaching checkpoints to ensure the safety of both themselves and the officers.

Here are some safety tips to keep in mind when driving:

  • Always follow traffic rules and regulations, including speed limits and traffic signals.

  • Avoid distractions while driving, such as using your phone or eating while behind the wheel.

  • Keep a safe distance from other vehicles to allow for sudden stops or turns.

  • Be alert and aware of your surroundings, especially in high-risk areas like checkpoints.

  • Never drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Certis, the security company responsible for managing Tuas Checkpoint, has released a statement expressing their concern for the injured officer and their family. The company has also pledged to provide support and assistance to the officer and their family during this difficult time.

Additionally, pedestrians should also take steps to ensure their safety:

  • Always use designated crosswalks and follow traffic signals when crossing the road.

  • Wear bright or reflective clothing to increase visibility.

  • Avoid distractions, such as using your phone, while walking near traffic.

Incidents like these highlight the importance of safety in our daily lives, especially in high-risk areas such as checkpoints.

It is crucial for everyone to take steps to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of themselves and those around them.

By following traffic rules, being alert and aware of your surroundings, and avoiding distractions while driving or walking, we can all contribute to creating a safer and more secure environment for all.
